On Saturday, Pete and I attended the 4th Annual Maker Faire Bay Area at the San Mateo County Expo Center. It was such a wonderful, unique, and amazing thing! So much talent and creativity! I’ll be posting about some of the artists that we saw there later in the week. I unfortunately (fortunately?) didn’t get many photos from inside the Bizarre Bazaar (where craft sellers such as Dutch Door Press were) as it was incredibly crowded, but I managed to grab the cards of a few sellers to revisit online later as I was dragged along in the sea of people. Here’s hoping next year they find a bigger space for the bazaar.
Here are some shots from the day:
This is part of the Steampunk exhibit. I must admit that I hadn’t heard of Steampunk before now. It’s a pretty interesting genre of craft and they put a lot of detail into their work. This bike was just beautiful.
The woman who made this is part of the Etsy Steampunk Street team.
Note the old iMac keyboards used on this.
These were made by a printer that makes 3D objects at 3,000th of an inch at a time. It took about 2-3 hrs for the printer to make one of these then the item is dipped in epoxy to strengthen it. It’s so incredible. Someday we’ll be able to make prototypes of our own at home.
Cute muffin mobiles.
And a snail car as well. You can rent it for parties. :)
This was my favorite booth in the Bizarre Bazaar, Xylocopa (besides Dutch Door Press, of course). I’ll be writing about them on Tuesday.
Free screen printing was being offered by Patchwerk Press, a collectively run print shop in Oakland. They are a great resource for classes and tools to use for screen printing or letterpress. Check them out if you're in the Bay Area.
These guys were working fast and furious to keep up with the crowd.
Drying a finished product.
I loved the dishtowel garland on the food tent.
I could go on and on, but I think you get the gist of the event. Make sure to check out the Maker Faire when it comes to your area. It’s such a great time and a great joy to be surrounded by so many artists of all kinds.

*sorry for reposting, but I did this kind of late last night and made a few mistakes that needed correcting. :)
